He learns how to ignore the disappointment and find something to replace it that makes him happy. Paying it forward is another way he deal's with disappointment, he just helps someone else to make them happy. I got really upset when my mother was shot by a shot gun. Even though she was fine. It was still scary. People pay it forward everyday. Not everyone does but it could even be the littlest thing you don't realize such as, Opening the door for someone, Telling someone to have a good day, or even saying "hi" or talking to someone that might really need to talk to someone. Pay it forward is everywhere.
I agree that the theme of disappointment shows up often in this book. I think Trevor learns how to deal with disappointment by trying harder, and pushing farther than he did the last time. I have noticed that he doesn't give up; instead he finds another route, or a different way to solve the problem, or fix the situation. A time when i was disappointed was when my mom promised me that we would scrapbook together that night, and we ended up not being able to, because she was too tired. I handled it very well, actually. I said that it was okay, and that instead we could just look at pictures in old photo albums. She thought that was a great idea! I think something like Pay it Forward would definitely work today! The reason i think that is because it really only takes one person's good intentions to spark a whole chain reaction type deal. If one person, like Trevor, decided to take a step towards bettering the world, it would work. Maybe not exactly as planned; but it would somehow find a way. Because good things like that don't just not work. They always find a way.
