i thought this was very interesting how first she was fighting and arguing with herself than finally says this and gives up.
what was your thought on what was happening before, during, and after this statement?
That she is upset about Ricky, Trevor's father leaving and not coming back, Arlene thinks that he is still in town or is just out side of town and just doesn't care about them. I think the significance of this passage is that they don't want Arlene looking for Ricky or try to take him back. Arlene is just depressed about him leaving her to all the responsibilities of Trevor and the house, and just never coming back.
